The microscopic pests that lurk in even apparently healthy canines can infect more than your dog if you allow his poop to linger on your lawn for more than a week. Without regular dog waste disposal, parasite eggs hatch, rodents start getting interested. And then there's the smell: the neighbors won't look at you when you're out getting the paper. These are all unfortunate and completely avoidable side effects. Scientists have discovered that dog poop is a major cause of water pollution, and that such pollution poses a significant hazard to human health. Pet waste is a significant cause of water body contamination in areas where there are high concentrations of dogs.
